So, at this point, it has probably been noted that I LOVE Mexican food. However, it’s not just the food I love, it’s the booze too! One of my favorite places in Orange County to do Happy Hour is SOL Cocina in Newport Beach. Yes, I realize that I’ve done a restaurant review on SOL before, but after my experience there last week, it would be unfair for me not share with you how great it was.
First, how do you beat the view at SOL? The answer is that you can’t. We arrived at SOL around 3 p.m. and headed for the bar. The bartender, Ryan, was incredibly nice. Not only did he make an amazing margarita (cucumber and jalapeno), but he took the time to explain SOL’s philosophy on buying booze and why expensive tequila is better (which okay, obviously we know, but he let us try the expensive stuff out – it was awesome).
One of the things I love about SOL for Happy Hour is that its drinks are fresh. This might sound weird because we aren’t talking about food, but honestly the cucumber and jalapeno were out of this world. While I’m at it, the additional cut-up fruit and veggies at the bar were bright, fresh and gorgeous.
After two margaritas, I moved on to the tequila. Why? Well when it is as smooth and delicious as this was, you just have to move on. All and all, it was exceptional.
I love SOL, both to eat and to do Happy Hour. It’s almost unbeatable. While I don’t like to play favorites…. I’m calling it – SOL is my favorite Orange County spot.
Go there! Otherwise, you’re missing out.
